Placement matters
Start with the battery compartment.
For most cordless tools, the battery compartment is the most protected practical location. The label is sheltered during normal use but remains easy to find when the battery is removed.
Clean and dry the surface
Remove dust, oil, and residue, then let the surface dry completely before applying the label.
Choose a flat protected area
Keep the QR code smooth and unobstructed. Never cover a vent, contact, safety notice, or manufacturer label.
Use the best location for the tool
If the battery compartment is too small, use another recessed or low-wear surface that can still be scanned.
Let the adhesive set
Press the entire label firmly and follow the label manufacturer's recommended cure time before heavy use.
What to print with
Use an industrial label—not a shipping label.
For tools, we recommend a printer that produces laminated labels or thermal-transfer labels on synthetic stock. These hold up far better against abrasion, moisture, oil, cleaners, heat, and daily handling than ordinary paper or direct-thermal labels.

Engrave the recovery address too.
We suggest engraving the tool's MyToolOps recovery address in the battery compartment—for example, MYTOOLOPS.COM/FOUND/7PK3-XQ9M. If the sticker is damaged or removed, the engraved address can still lead a finder to the registered company's recovery page.
Keep the manufacturer serial number in the private asset record and engrave it as well when appropriate. That gives your company and law enforcement a second identifier for matching recovered property to ownership records.

A person who finds the tool can scan its QR code and reach the company-approved contact information. If law enforcement recovers equipment, your company can provide its stored serial numbers, photos, receipts, and custody history, while the label or engraved recovery address provides a direct way to identify the registered organization.
